PRISM DJs x Rescue Skin Presents: Beyond the Turntables with DJ Roxcizzle

We have been celebrating brilliantly talented women all month long, and today is no different.

In the third installment of our "Beyond the Turntables" campaign, we are proud to feature Roxanne Kalie, also known as DJ Roxcizzle. DJ Roxcizzle is a South African Model/Actress and DJ. At the age of 13, she was scouted by a top model agency. Over the years, she has appeared in countless online and print publications and become a recognizable face through her leading roles in national and international commercials with top brands.

Here is DJ Roxcizzle in her own words:

1. When did you start your career as a DJ?
My DJ career began in February 2017; it's been four awesome years now.

2. What genre of music do you spin?
I play soulful, funky, uplifting (conscious) Deep House music.

3. What/who inspired you to become a DJ?
There was one person, a friend of mine in particular, who I'd like to say 'threw me' into the world of Djing by offering me my first opportunity. However, music has always been my first love since playing musical instruments and being involved in choirs and the orchestra throughout my childhood. I am most inspired by my DJ/Producer friends who created the Deep House scene in Cape Town, South Africa.

4. When you're not at the turntables, where can we find you?
I am a model, actress, and digital content creator. So, when I'm not spinning, I get to play on set or in other creative spaces using different mediums. When I'm not doing any of these, I'm either outdoors at the beach or spending quality time watching movies and playing games with my husband and daughter.

5. When did you start caring for your skin?
I believe I began caring for my skin when I first broke out as a teenager. I had to create and follow my routine more seriously to see results. Since then, it's become second nature, but something I look forward to doing daily.

6. Who was your first skinfluencer? (Whoever taught you how to care for your skin: Mom, sister, aunt, friend, actor, etc.)
My queen mother was my first skinfluencer, without a doubt! In terms of self-care in general, she was the one I watched closely and made me want to pamper myself in various ways.

7. What skin product (besides sunscreen) can you not live without? (toner, moisturizer, serum)
It's a tough decision choosing which product I cannot live without! I usually have three that I believe are equally essential, but for now, let's say moisturizer. Cos ain't nobody got time for dryness over here!

8. What makeup product is always in your gig bag when DJing an event?
The makeup product that's always in my bag would firstly have to be a moisturizing lip balm, hands down. With or without a mask, I wouldn't be caught dead with chapped lips, honey :-D

9. Beauty means many things. What does it mean to you?
To me, beauty means to 'be.' It's often interpreted as an aesthetic concept, which is both objective and subjective. But if you embrace your uniqueness unapologetically and shine your light from within, that's beauty, in my opinion.

10. How do you empower others through your work?
I empower others through my work by approaching everything I do with immense love, respect, and gratitude for every opportunity. The world doesn't owe me anything, but I believe that when I move with this energy, others may see it, experience it, and realize what's possible for them too. That brings me great joy, and so the flow continues.
